To cope with the increasing amounts of solid waste in three municipalities of Kathmandu Valley, the Government of Nepal approached the Government of Federal Republic of Germany for technical and financial assistance in mid 1970s. In response, Deutsche Gesellschaft Fuer Technische Zusammerarbeit (GTZ) commissioned a study on the status of SWM.
